Kirby Gray, a native of Indianapolis, dedicated 27 years to the U.S. Army and National Guard. He began his service in 1978 as a tanker and went on to master artillery, heavy and light vehicle mechanics, and mechanized infantry.

He served across the U.S, including California, Oregon, Montana, and Texas, and overseas in Baumholder, Germany. Known for his mechanical skills and steady leadership, Kirby became a trusted mentor, especially later in his career with the National Guard.

Ever wondered what $10 could do? It can save the lives of veterans. Donate $10 a month and help us reach veterans before a crisis occurs. Together, we can do better. Our veterans deserve better.

Recently, Kirby faced a major health challenge: the removal of a brain tumor. The surgery left him with vision loss in one eye and limited use of one side of his body. In the face of these challenges, his resilience remains unwavering.

Thanks to the partnership between Indy Warrior Partnership and fellow veteran Kris Wilson, President of Veteran Support Network Inc., Kirby received a wheelchair originally passed down by a Vietnam War-era veteran from Kokomo, Indiana. It’s a powerful example of veterans supporting one another across generations.

Kirby’s story is one of service, adaptability, and quiet strength. For him, the heart of his journey has always been the people he served with and the mission they shared.
