Deeds not Words: Dale's Story

For Mr. Dyer, service to his country was only the beginning of a lifelong commitment to perseverance and resilience.

A post-9/11 Army Reserve veteran, Dale served from 1999 through 2022, including a deployment to Iraq from 2004 to 2006. Throughout his military career, he demonstrated dedication and sacrifice in service to others. Years later, he found himself facing a different kind of challenge, one that threatened his family's financial stability.

In late 2025, Dale suffered a serious leg injury that forced him to stop working. What was initially expected to be a temporary setback became a months-long recovery process, leaving him out of work. At the same time, his wife experienced significant health issues that kept her out of work for several weeks, further reducing the family's income and creating mounting financial strain.

As the family worked to navigate these challenges, another obstacle emerged. Their vehicle began experiencing major mechanical problems, and a visit to the mechanic revealed that repairs would cost several thousand dollars - an expense they simply could not afford.

Reliable transportation was not a luxury for the Dyer family; it was essential. Dale's work schedule often required him to report at unpredictable hours, while his wife needed transportation to maintain her own employment. With children still in school, having dependable vehicles was critical to keeping their household functioning.

Determined to find a solution, Dale searched extensively for local and national resources that could assist with the repair costs. Thanks to AWP and PureTalk's Deeds Not Words initiative, help arrived when it mattered most.

The assistance provided helped remove a significant barrier between Dale and his return to work. With transportation restored, the family could focus on recovery, employment, and rebuilding financial stability rather than worrying about transportation.
