Affording Christmas Gifts after a loss in the family

Most of us experience the pressure of trying to make the holiday season perfect – finding the perfect gifts, making the perfect recipes, and having the perfect holiday photos taken for a greeting card. For some, there's the feeling of just trying to get by and making an attempt to end the year on a better note.

Ever wondered what $10 could do? It can save the lives of veterans like the one you're reading about in this story. Donate $10 a month and help us reach veterans before a crisis occurs. Together, we can do better. Our veterans deserve better.

Jessica, an Army veteran, came to America’s Warrior Partnership (AWP) after a particularly hard year that included the loss of her husband. Leading up to the holidays, it was hard enough for her to make ends meet to pay everyday bills, but even more so to try to factor Christmas gifts for her family into her budget. Because her three children are older, they didn’t qualify for most of the gift giving assistance programs.

Jessica worked with Elizabeth, an AWP Network Advocate, to seek assistance programs that would help meet her family’s needs so she could restructure her budget to afford her sons’ gifts. She was able to apply for food assistance thanks to Disabled Veterans National Foundation (DVNF).

After being able to provide for her three sons this winter, Jessica gave her sincere thanks to AWP and DVNF for their help.
