The Network in Action: COVID-19 Continues to Impact

For many of us, COVID-19 has had a rippling impact on our personal finances. John, a pre-9/11 Navy veteran, just started a new job when the pandemic struck and was furloughed until further notice. With no income, John could no longer afford his monthly expenses and was close to facing an eviction.

John was referred to The Network with the help of Mission Roll Call. An advocate from The Network contacted a Veteran Service Officer in John’s local community and asked if there were any local resources available that could assist the veteran. After reaching out to one local resource, the advocate was able to get John referred to Macomb Community Action Center. This specific agency had funds for those that were directly affected by the pandemic. With the help of Macomb Community Action Center, John was able to get his rent paid and was no longer facing an eviction. Since then, John is now back to work and spending time with a new addition to his family, his precious grandson.

Thanks to the efforts by the local community, Mission Roll Call and The Network, a furlough didn't turn into a catastrophe for this Navy veteran.
