We might often assume that after years of service to our country, the most trying battles we face won’t be inside our own homes. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case for this Army veteran.
Lisa* is a pre-9/11 veteran who recently left a domestic violence situation for her safety. She was a homemaker for many years and, due to the circumstances of her departure, left the situation with only two bags of clothing and no financial resources. This sudden transition left her without financial stability and unable to address unexpected but necessary vehicle repairs totaling nearly $3,000 - a hefty bill to pay when there are so many other stressors to deal with.
Reliable transportation is critical for her to attend employment-related obligations, medical and service appointments, and housing-related meetings. Assistance with these repairs will support her efforts to regain stability and move toward self-sufficiency after leaving the unsafe domestic violence situation.
She has been offered employment and is actively working to secure housing. However, due to her lack of financial resources, she is unable to cover the cost of required car repairs that she would need for transportation to and from the new job. Without assistance, Lisa risks losing the future and independence she is building for herself.
Thanks to PureTalk, Lisa was able to receive assistance for the repairs on her car and regain a bit of stability as she navigates this chapter where she can safely rebuild her life and regain her independence.
Deeds Not Words is a collaborative initiative between PureTalk and America’s Warrior Partnership, dedicated to providing tangible support to veterans in need. Through PureTalk’s continued commitment, veterans like Lisa can access help through the AWP Network when they need it most.
