So many veterans have incredible skills gained from their service, but transitioning those skills to the workplace can be challenging. This was the case for Catherine Martin*, a Navy vet (’04-’10) who contacted Permian Warrior Partnership (PWP) looking for employment guidance following her move back home to Midland, TX.
Catherine recently moved to Midland with her children, but due to the move, was unemployed. She applied to multiple places and did not receive any response. Feeling frustrated, and wanting to be able to support her family, she was put in contact with PWP Case Coordinator Breanna Durner for help. Catherine explained her background and applicable workplace knowledge. Breanna took Catherine’s information and resume and forwarded them to local employers who built relationships with PWP. So many employers want to hire veterans for their dedication, teamwork, and strong work ethic. However, identifying these candidates is not always easy; they get lost in the shuffle.
Within the same day that Breanna distributed Catherine’s credentials, Catherine received numerous calls requesting interviews. When PWP later followed up with Catherine, she said that it was overwhelming, but in a good way, to have so much potential on the horizon. While she is still in the interview process, PWP will continue to have a line of communication with Catherine to provide any support she needs in her job search and beyond. We are excited to assist veterans like Catherine in fulfilling their potential and thriving in their community.
