Panhandle Warrior Partnership and the Mental Health Association of Fort Walton Beach and community came together in a powerful act of kindness this week, donating much-needed supplies to the local homeless population. Boxes and bags filled the center’s lobby, each one packed with items that will make a real difference in the lives of those experiencing homelessness.

Jeremy was the youngest of four children born to our mother, Sylvia M. Macias, who raised all of us to serve our country. My brother Robert and I enlisted in the Army, while Gilbert and Jeremy chose the Marine Corps.

At 68 years old, Navy veteran Thomas (‘72-76) found himself facing a challenge that many might overlook, but one that weighed heavily on him. That challenge was an overgrown yard.

The 988 Veteran Crisis Line is more than just a number. It is a lifeline for veterans who find themselves in moments of overwhelming need. Available 24 hours a day, it connects veterans directly with trained responders who understand the unique challenges of military service and the struggles that can come after. Whether someone is facing a mental health crisis or simply does not know where to turn, 988 offers immediate, compassionate support.

Gulf Coast Career Source generously donated essential items to support a community homeless outreach event. Their contribution, which included clothing, blankets, hygiene kits, helped ensure that individuals experiencing homelessness received much-needed comfort and care. The donation met immediate needs and also demonstrated the organization’s commitment to giving back and uplifting vulnerable members of the community.

At Indy Warrior Partnership (IWP), we believe that veterans and their families deserve strong support and real connection. Blue Star Families helps military families across the country, while we help veterans right here in Central Indiana; that’s why our partnership with Blue Star Families (BSF) means so much to us, as well as the community we serve. Together, we make sure veterans and their loved ones feel welcome, supported, and empowered.

Jerry, an Army veteran who served our nation from 1968 to 1971, has always been the kind of man who takes care of things himself. But as the years passed, he found it harder to keep up with the little tasks around the house. His biggest concern, though, was not for himself. It was for his wife, Millie. Millie is unable to drive, and day after day she was stuck at home, longing for connection and companionship.

Bernice, a veteran from Wide Ruins, was carrying a heavy burden when she first connected with DNP program lead Cassandra, back in June. Her roof was falling apart, and every day she worried about how long her home would keep protecting her and her daughter. With limited income, the repairs felt out of reach, leaving her with an overwhelming sense of uncertainty.

Without a car, daily routines are disrupted, job opportunities vanish, and financial stress quickly builds. For those who seek additional income as rideshare or grocery drivers, the loss of transportation isn't just inconvenient; it's a direct hit to livelihood and independence.

With the rising costs of lumber and other materials, even simple projects like building a deck have become a financial challenge. When Elaine and her Air Force veteran (1970-1990) husband, Matt, received quotes that were far beyond their budget, Matt decided to take on the deck rebuild himself. Elaine, who had learned about AKWP at her local vet center, reached out for support.

Earlier this August, leaders and advocates from across the country gathered in Washington, D.C. for the 12th Annual Warrior Symposium, hosted by America’s Warrior Partnership. Held at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the event brought together a powerful mix of voices committed to improving the lives of veterans, and Indy Warrior Partnership (IWP) was proud to be among them.

One of the most important parts of the outreach we do at Permian Warrior Partnership is that we are educating veterans, their families, and their caregivers around the Permian Basin about who we are and what we can do for them. By bridging the information gap, we can reach the underserved and isolated veterans in our communities, and though they may not need us when they first meet us, they’ll know we’re around when life happens.

In June 2025, DNP was contacted by Cecilia Sandoval of National American Indian Veterans and Bob Dalpe of the Veterans Medical Leadership Council in Phoenix, AZ, who wished to donate toys. Together with DNP case coordinator Karen Shirley, they began planning how to deliver the toys to a veteran organization in Sawmill, AZ.

Daniel is a Post-911 Air Force combat veteran (3 combat tours, 1 noncombat) with 12 years of service with a 100% disability rating due to his below-the-knee amputation. He recently lost 50lbs as a result of his brace no longer fitting him correctly, which causes him a lot of pain when he walks. Daniel is very physically active and without a new brace he could end up wheelchair bound.

Kirby Gray, a native of Indianapolis, dedicated 27 years to the U.S. Army and National Guard. He began his service in 1978 as a tanker and went on to master artillery, heavy and light vehicle mechanics, and mechanized infantry.

Preparing to welcome a new baby to the family comes with many joys and challenges, however, moving into a new apartment with no furniture is a stressor of its own. The need for essential household items, most importantly a bed and basic furniture, are necessary to make any new space a home.

Increasing a veteran’s disability rating can have a significant impact on their quality of life. A higher rating often means greater monthly compensation, access to enhanced healthcare through the VA, eligibility for additional benefits like housing assistance, educational support, and caregiver resources. It also provides recognition of the true extent of their service-connected conditions, offering both financial stability and emotional validation.
