Operation Deep Dive™

Operation Deep Dive™ is Seeking Interview Participants

You can help prevent suicides and self-injury deaths among former service members.

How can you help?

By participating in an Operation Deep Dive™ interview that aims to examine the lives of former service members lost to suicide or self-injury (i.e., overdose, asphyxiation, accidental gunshot, drowning, suicide by law enforcement, or high-speed, single-driver accident) within the last 24 months.

What is the goal?

The goal is to examine how the deceased service member was engaged within the community and how the community can better support our service members in the future.

Your insights will contribute greatly to the formation of a proactive approach to preserving the life of service members and veterans!

Objective & Scope:

Operation Deep Dive™ is a community-based, former service member, suicide and self-injury prevention study taking place across the country. This four-year study was initially funded by a grant from the Bristol- Myers Squibb Foundation.

The goal of Operation Deep Dive™ is to develop an upstream approach to enhancing programs that improve former service members' quality of life—thereby reducing risk factors associated with former service member suicide and self-injury deaths.

Operation Deep Dive™ is the first research study of its kind to:

  • Look at the impact of community environments on former service members.

  • Look at the impact of less-than-honorable discharges on former service members.

  • Include former service members with Honorable Discharge, Entry Level Separation, General Discharge – Under Honorable Conditions, Other Than Honorable Conditions Discharge, Bad Conduct Discharge, Officer Discharge, or Dishonorable Discharge.

  • Include cases of self-injury deaths (i.e., overdose, asphyxiation, accidental gunshot, drowning, suicide by law enforcement, or high-speed, single-driver accident) in addition to suicide.
